Botox

What is Botox?

At Langdon Dental, we utilize Botox to treat a variety of dental and facial-related problems. We are able to utilize this treatment for restorative, corrective and cosmetic reasons. Most often, Botox is used to relieve pain and stiffness related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It can be used to help treat gummy smiles, facial pain, uneven lips and bruxism (tooth grinding).

How is Botox used in dentistry?

When most people think of Botox, they only think of the cosmetic benefits of the treatment. However, Botox is successfully used in dentistry to treat a wide range of oral and facial-related problems. Some of the ways that Botox is used include:

• Treatment of bruxism and clenching
• TMJ pain, discomfort and stiffness
• Gummy smiles
• Uneven lips
• Limited movement of the jaw (lock jaw)
• Headaches and migraines

What makes you a candidate for Botox?

Most patients who feel they would benefit from Botox are able to have treatment performed. Before you are able to have Botox treatment, you’ll come in for a consultation. We will take photos of you before treatment to compare them to how Botox is able to help you after it is administered. We will be able to answer any questions that you have regarding Botox treatment in our office.
