What is Botox or Botulinum Toxin?

At Langdon Dental, we utilize abobotulinumtoxinA or better known as Botox or dysport, to treat a variety of dental and facial-related problems. We are able to utilize this treatment for restorative, corrective and cosmetic reasons. Most often, Botox is used to relieve pain and stiffness related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). It can be used to help treat gummy smiles, facial pain, uneven lips and bruxism (tooth grinding).

How is Botox/Dysport used in dentistry?

When most people think of Botox/Dysport they only think of the cosmetic benefits of the treatment. However, Botox/Dysport is successfully used in dentistry to treat a wide range of oral and facial-related problems. Some of the ways that Botox is utilized include:

• Treatment of bruxism and clenching
• TMJ pain, discomfort and stiffness
